From October 13 to 20, 2019, a delegation led by Prof. XU Shenjian, Dean oftheSchool of Juris MasterofChina University of Political Science and Law (CUPL), paid a visit to New York University and Temple University in the United States, University of Montreal in Canada, and US-based Pepper HamiltonLawFirm. The delegates included Prof. LIU Baoyu, Associate Prof. TAO Qian, and Dr. SHI Yacong oftheSchool of Juris Master.
On October 14, the delegation visitedtheNew York University (NYU)School of Law. The delegates were received by some experts of the U.S.-AsiaLawInstituteatthe School of Law, including Academic Director Prof. Jerome A. Cohen, Executive Director Prof. Katherine Wilhelm, Senior Research Fellow Ira Belkin, Research Fellow Elias Blood-Patterson, Research Fellow Allen Clayton-Greene, and Research Fellow Gao Yuan.

The two sides held heated discussions over legal professional ethics, exploring how they could expand cooperation in the education of legal professional ethics. Prof. Jerome A. Cohen said NYU School of Law was willing to provide qualified teachers for teaching of legal professional ethics, in anticipation of enhancing the professionalqualityof the legal community by offering the education of legal professional ethics. Both sides further discussed the way to make the course of legal professional ethics available to students, looking to better align the lecturing of legal professional ethics course with the reality through case teaching.

On October 16, the delegation paid a visit toTemple University Beasley School of Lawand held talks with Prof. Gregory N. Mandel, Dean of the School; Prof. John W. Smagula, Associate Dean of the School; Prof. Spencer Rand with the Legal Aid Center; Prof. Deborah M.McCreery, Deputy Director of Alumni Affairs; and Ms. WANG Wei, Admission Director for Asia & Secretary-general oftheChina Alumni Association.

The two sides expected to further expand cooperation fields and strengthenthecollaboration in student cultivation in addition to teacher exchange and short courses. In the meantime, both sides negotiated over the details of relevant cooperative projects and decided to work faster to embark on thepublicityand admission of relevant projects.

On October 17, the delegation visited Pepper Hamilton, a prestigious law firm in Philadelphia, and exchanged ideas with prominent attorneys and partners in different realms such as Kelly Tillery, Frank Devine, Matt Adler, Mike Reed, and ZENG Ying.
DeanXU Shenjian exchanged views with the lawyers and partners present regarding the advantages andproblemsof American education. In addition, he invited themto lectureat theSchool of Juris MasterofCUPL to further combine theories with practices and explorenewmodels andnew ideasto legal practice courses.

On October 18, the delegation paid a visit tothe Facultyof Law of University of Montreal in Canada. The two sideshadan academicdiscussionregarding the codification of civil law and online disclosure of judgementdocuments.The scholarsfromthe Faculty—including Deputy Dean Prof. Pierre Larouche, Prof. Gautrais Vincent, Prof. Tremblay Hugo, and Prof. Morin Michel—academically exchanged withtheteachers ofour school. Prof. Morin Michel moderated this event,and themembers of both sides delivered remarks,respectively. During the discussions after the academic exchange, Chinese and Canadian scholars conducted in-depth exchanges with regard to the chapter style for codifying civil law, punitive damages concerning intellectual property, personal information protection on the Internet,andright to be forgotten, among others. Both sides mutually introduced their experiencearoundthe disclosure of judgement documents, the writing of abbreviature of adjudication and others.
