In response to the Ministry of Education's requirements on the containment of the COVID-19 pandemic and the university's strategy, the pandemic containment working group of the School of Juris Master of China University of Political Science and Law (CUPL) has studied the actual situations and formulated the following plan, intended to avoid disruptions to learning while classroom instruction is suspended. The plan draws on online platforms as a measure to keep students learning and improving themselves during the pandemic containment period.
I. Enhancing guidance and securing adequate teaching resources
1. We will draft and issue a Letter to Juris Master Supervisors, urging the supervisors to provide more guidance for students online, which should cover both daily life and degree theses.
2. We will encourage the teachers and students to communicate online about learning and daily life under the banners of branded events such as the Jimen Juris Master Reading Club and the Afternoon Tea for Juris Master Teachers and Students.
3. We will strengthen the communication with the part-time supervisors to incentivize them to play a bigger role. That is how we can integrate more resources for legal practice to diversify teaching methods and set up a bridge for students to learn through practice. It is also a way to implement education with everyone making efforts during the whole process from all aspects.
II. Organizing events to inspire thinking
4. For the first-year students, the class teacher and the counselor will jointly organize a class meeting under the theme of fighting as one against the pandemic.
5. For the second- and third-year students, an online workshop for thesis writing will be initiated, where full-time teachers will answer questions and provide help on matters such as the thesis proposal, writing, and defense.
6. We will organize a paper competition for all students of the school to participate. The paper competition will be themed on legal issues in pandemic containment, with multiple awards set up. Outstanding papers will be published as a collection.
III. Ramping up reform to teaching and research as a foundation for effective teaching
7. For the core courses in the spring semester, we will stress the importance of course preparation and pre-learning. Learning materials and syllabuses should be ready beforehand. Efforts should be made to avoid chaos when we shift from classroom instruction to online teaching or vice versa.
8. We will remain in close contact with the university’s functional departments and our partners to get technical support for online teaching and relevant resources so that we can achieve higher efficiency.
9. All administrative and functional departments of the school will strengthen overall coordination and step up organizational guarantee. They will try their best to create the right conditions for teaching and research activities, aiming to minimize the impact of the pandemic.
At this critical time of pandemic containment, all teachers and students of the school should strictly follow relevant requirements, enhance the awareness of protection, and take proper measures to reduce the movement of people. By implementing this plan, we can unite as one and defeat the pandemic with our determination and responsibility.
