On the afternoon of November 13, 2023, Joan Loughrey, Dean of the Law School at Queen’s University Belfast, visited the School of Juris Master and engaged in discussions and exchanges with our School. LU Chunlong, Vice President of CUPL and Executive Vice Dean of the Graduate School at CUPL, XU Shenjian, Dean of the School of Juris Master in CUPL, HAN Wensheng, Chair of the Council of the School of Juris Master in CUPL, LIU Zhihui, Vice Dean of the School of Juris Master in CUPL, LIANG Min, Vice Dean of the School of Juris Master in CUPL, Dr. YE Ningyao from the Economic Law Research Department of the School of Juris Master in CUPL, and CAO Huiqun, Secretary of Foreign Affairs, participated in the discussions. The forum was chaired by Dean XU Shenjian.
Vice President LU Chunlong first extended a warm welcome to Dean Joan Loughrey. He introduced CUPL’s history, teaching and research and international exchanges, as well as its unique education characteristics. LU Chunlong expressed the hope for further exchanges and cooperation with Queen’s University Belfast and its Law School, with a view to strengthening their cooperation in academic research, faculty and student exchanges, and promoting the development and deepening friendship between the two sides.
Dean XU Shenjian also extended a warm welcome to Dean Joan Loughrey and expressed gratitude for the excellent lecture she delivered to the faculty and students of the School. He introduced the School’s history, faculty, teaching and research, talents cultivation, and international exchanges. XU stated that the School of Juris Master boasts comprehensive disciplines, strong faculty and outstanding students. He expressed the desire to strengthen their cooperation and exchanges with the Law School of Queen’s University Belfast, so as to jointly promote the growth and development of faculty and students and enhancing the education quality of the two sides.
Dean Joan Loughrey introduced the geographical location, faculty and distinctive features of Queen’s University Belfast. She also made collaboration assumptions in terms of student training and academic education and expected to establish a long-term cooperative relationship with the School of Juris Master, CUPL.
Chair HAN Wensheng engaged in in-depth discussions with Dean Joan Loughrey on issues such as legal ethics teaching in the UK and faculty performance evaluations, and put forward cooperation proposals.
Vice Dean LIU Zhihui expressed the hope for continuous exploration of cooperation areas, so as to provide more opportunities for exchanges among teachers and students.
Vice Dean LIANG Min suggested strengthening faculty exchanges and academic cooperation to support the School’s program for cultivating foreign-related legal talents and to facilitate the growth and development of faculty members.
Dr. YE Ningyao expressed anticipation for the exchange of teaching resources and further collaboration between the two sides.
The two sides also had in-depth discussions about legal ethics teaching, cooperation models, and reached consensus on further cooperation and exchanges.
