Prof. Tra Pham, Associate Dean of Moritz College of Law, The Ohio State University, Visits the School of Juris Master

On the afternoon of October 24, 2023, Tra Pham, Associate Dean of Moritz College of Law at The Ohio State University, visited the School of Juris Master and engaged in discussions and exchanges with our School. TANG Yan, Deputy Director of the Office of International Cooperation and Exchange at CUPL, XU Shenjian, Dean of the School of Juris Master in CUPL, HAN Wensheng, Chair of the Council of the School of Juris Master in CUPL, LIU Zhihui, Vice Dean of the School of Juris Master in CUPL, LIANG Min, Vice Dean of the School of Juris Master in CUPL, LIU Xuanlin, Assistant to the Dean and Director of the Institute of Economic Law and Social Law, and CAO Huiqun, Secretary of Foreign Affairs, participated in the discussions. The meeting was chaired by Vice Dean LIANG Min.

Dean XU Shenjian first extended a warm welcome to Associate Dean Tra Pham and expressed gratitude to the Moritz College of Law and the Office of International Cooperation and Exchange for their support for the School of Juris Master. He introduced the advantages of the School of Juris Master and emphasized the cutting-edge and practical nature of programs for foreign-related lawyers and international arbitration. He also made a horizontal comparison between the cultivation of foreign-related legal talents in our school and that of foreign law schools. He emphasized that our school attaches great importance to students’ international exchanges and takes it as the mission to cultivate versatile legal talents with an international perspective. The Moritz College of Law at The Ohio State University and CUPL have already established a solid foundation for cooperation. Dean XU Shenjian expressed the hope that, in the post-pandemic era, the School of Juris Master can further engage in exchanges and cooperation with the Moritz College of Law.

Associate Dean Tra Pham showed recognition of the School’s emphasis on cultivating talents in emerging legal fields and expressed the hope that both sides can actively explore more feasible cooperation models and establish a long-term partnership. She introduced the disciplinary advantages and characteristics of the Moritz College of Law, with a particular focus on the international exchange student programs and scholarships.

Deputy Director TANG Yan introduced the existing cooperation between CUPL and the Moritz College of Law and expressed the hope that this meeting could serve as an opportunity to expand new areas of cooperation and achieve effective long-term collaboration to promote exchanges and academic cooperation between teachers and students.

Chair HAN Wensheng also extended a warm welcome to Associate Dean Tra Pham and reviewed the development of the School of Juris Master since its establishment in 2005. His introduction focused on the School’s programs for foreign-related lawyers and international arbitration, stating that the school has produced numerous outstanding legal talents for government agencies, law firms, accounting firms and corporate legal departments. He said that the school has an excellent faculty team and high-quality students, and he hoped that both sides can strengthen exchanges and looked for fruitful collaboration.

Vice Dean LIU Zhihui introduced the teaching and training situation of the School, focusing on the three characteristics of the School’s programs for foreign-related lawyers and international arbitration, namely comparative education of legal ethics, specialized practical curriculums and a diversified faculty team. She hoped that through cooperation, both sides can gather excellent teaching resources and provide students with more opportunities for international exchanges.

Associate Prof. LIU Xuanlin focused on introducing the School’s talents cultivation model and, based on personal experience, expressed the expectation that the internationalized faculty can further broaden the international perspectives of the School, creating more opportunities for cooperation between the two sides.

During the open discussion session, both sides had in-depth discussions about training models, types of exchange programs, as well as costs, and reached a consensus on further cooperation and exchanges.
